Città di Castello (Pg). This year's edition of the Festival delle Nazioni will run from August 21st to September 5th with a densely packed calendar of concerts, plays and dance. As with past editions, the festival focusses on the culture of a particular nation, which for this year will be Israel.
Contemporary music and musicians will be featured in abundance at this year's event, which will focus mainly on the music of the Aliyot.
Little known authors from the early 20th century such as Paul Ben-Haim or Yehezkel Braun, whose writings are emblematic of the Sionist migrations towards the promised land from Eastern Europe, will be heard in readings and plays.
On a more multi-ethnic note, Idan Raichel and his group of musicians from Ethiopia, Georgia, Suriname, Iran and Israel will also be present at the festival.
Lovers of contemporary serious music will not be disappointed, however, since a performance has been scheduled by the Israel Chamber Orchestra conducted by eminent composer Gil Shohat. As always, young talent will receive an invaluable opportunity to improve their talents with the Luigi Angelini workshop classes.
The dance section of the festival will feature pieces by two choreographers, the Israeli Avi Kaiser and the Italian Sergio Antonino, who have a long standing collaboration and who will be presenting their latest work Piyut, which draws its inspiration from the sung verse of the Bible.
